Noteliner FREE SMALL PROJECT MANAGEMENT OUTLINER NOW WITH GANTT CHARTS!
Noteliner helps you manage multiple small projects:
•An assignment at work with a small group of people spanning several months
•A paper or novel you are writing that involves research and ideas
•A legal matter that you are managing
•A class you are taking that involves note taking and task management
Noteliner helps you structure and track your work; it provides a place to record meeting and conversation notes, manage todos, and store key project information that might otherwise be scattered about. It is a simple tool that gives you a means to stay on top of everything you need to do and remember.
It’s a hybrid single pane / double pane outliner that has additional metadata so you can create todo lists, table overlays and even gantt charts. Being a double pane outliner makes it easy to structure and navigate. Being a single pane outliner allows you to seamlessly search and filter the information.
I developed it originally over 15 years ago and have updated it every few years. From time to time I´ve looked for other tools to help me keep track of all the things that I need to do at work but I have found them either too cumbersome--creating work rather than reducing it--or too basic. For no particular reason in early 2010 I decided to clean it up and see if others might find it useful (I´ve continued to update it since then). I hope you do!
Noteliner lets you create a hierarchy of notes. You can give these notes follow-up dates, indicate which ones need attention, assign people, prioritize, or mark them complete. Different views allow you to see all the notes assigned to a particular person, those that need follow-up, attention or are dated. You can also specify which notes are part of a To-Do list and then view all To-Dos across your projects along with other items that need attention. You can convert pages (lists) into tables so you can keep more structured information about them, or view the dates in that table in the form of a Gantt chart.
I use it every day at work. I run it on Windows XP but it should be fine on Windows 2000 and more recent. Its written in Visual C++ so it is fast and light weight.

I have used ECCO Pro since the 1980s, and have found it indispensable but limited in certain respects (despite the various revivals). Noteliner really does the trick for 95% of my ECCO outlining, with less fuss and muss.

The powerful tagging and search function I find especially useful and the real-time searching is unique and awesome.

I just wanted you to know that's an indispensable little tool for me, and I'm very happy with it --- recommended and installed it to a bunch of my friends as well.

Just wanted to let you know I love this little prog. I’m a writer and I use it as the perfect plot outliner. I have the choice to see and work on only the Chapter, Scene, etc. I need, or to see the whole thing at once if I want. On top of it all, it’s nice and portable without having to bother with installation.

To be able to open and close nodes or see only the node I’m working on without being distracted by everything else I’ve included in the outline is a must for me to stay focused and organized. So before I accidentally found Noteliner, I was using big, overbloated, takes-forever-to-install MS Word as my outliner. Now I can do the same thing more effectively with my small light-weight Noteliner that I can take anywhere. Impressive!
A project and information management application that is as simple and lightweight as a text editor, with the power of an outliner, the metadata of a to-do list, tables, and Gantt charts!
Send me an email if you find a bug! It really helps me create the best Noteliner that I can.
